LPGA Tour Golfer Amy Hung Becomes Spokesperson for 'Survivor Celebration' and 'Marathon of Miracles Foundation'
Four people to win trip to Las Vegas and a round of golf with Amy Hung
(SANTA MONICA, CA) - The nonprofit Marathon of Miracles (MOM) Foundation, the award-winning Survivor Celebration campaign and LPGA Tour golfer Amy Hung are coming together in a big way to help survivors in the fight against breast cancer.
Amy, rising fast on the LPGA's money list, has played on the pro tour since 2004. She was listed at number 44 on the official LPGA money list on November 30th. Amy became attracted to the MOM Foundation and the Survivor Celebration campaign at the PGA Fall Expo in Las Vegas. "I was moved by the true story of Jane Ali's experience in her battle against breast cancer and her strength and resolve to help other women become Survivors," said Amy, explaining her commitment to the cause. "Seeing Jane and what she's doing to help others has really inspired me to help her reach more people. I hope we are able to convince more women to get regular exams."
"We were at the PGA Fall Expo launching a new golf fundraising initiative called Pink Scorecard Days and promoting the Survivor Celebration Tour when Amy approached me at my booth at the demo day," said Jane Ali, breast cancer survivor and Founder of the MOM Foundation. Jane is the wife of A.J. Ali, writer, CEO of the Eclipse Business Golf Academy and partner in Survivor Celebration Corp. "The MOM Foundation is a nonprofit organization that helps survivors in a number of ways from helping with financial support, to praying with survivors, to matching up new patients with survivors who have gotten past 'the scary part' and made it through treatments," says Jane. "One of the great things we are doing is giving away Survivor Surprises. In November, Celebration sponsors including Xellent Swiss Vodka, Innisbrook Resort and the Bank of Marion (in Illinois), teamed up to give a couple a trip to Innisbrook Resort in Tampa, Florida. Her husband submitted a moving letter of her victorious battle against cancer. She had been given 3 months to live and 3 years later, she's still with us. They've been fighting so hard and they deserved a break, so we're here for them. We're looking forward to doing some fun things with Amy to spread awareness and let survivors know that they are not alone."
Funds for the Foundation are raised through donations and from a portion of proceeds from several Survivor Celebration initiatives including a compilation music CD produced by A.J. (includes a song he wrote for his wife Jane and music from a dozen great independent artists), Survivor Celebration parties and sponsorship arrangements with a variety of companies. Amy will be promoting a new product from Daphne's Headcovers, a Survivor Celebration Sponsor, as well as the Pink Scorecard Days program. "My hope is that I can encourage women and men that follow the LPGA Tour in the U.S., Asia and Europe to get behind the program even if they don't have someone in their life battling the disease. There are so many people going through it or have lost loved ones to it that it can't be ignored," says Amy. "I'm blessed with great health, but that just means that I have a responsibility to reach out to help others that are going through a tough time. With the Pink Scorecard program, people that like to golf can help raise funds and awareness simply by doing what they love to do."
It was A.J. and Jane's close personal experiences with cancer, as well as their passion for golf and social entrepreneurship, that led to the creation of Pink Scorecard Days. Through the Pink Scorecard Days program, golf courses can participate in an ongoing effort to help breast cancer survivors. Courses choose which months, weeks or days are Pink Scorecard Days. It's not a tournament; it's just a great way to get people to the course on what typically would be a slow day of play. A Pink Scorecard participant gets pledges to play all day for one price on designated days. For most people, that means getting to play 36 holes for the price of 18. The golf courses agree to contribute a small referral fee per golfer to cover the program costs, enabling 100% of the pledge donations to go to breast cancer support organizations and survivors. The golfer has the option of designating a local charity to receive up to 80% of the funds they raise. Golfers win prizes for participating and the four golfers that raise the most money during the year will win a trip to Las Vegas to receive a golf lesson and play a round of golf with Amy.
Cancer Hits Home For Many
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women today, according to the World Health Organization, with more than 213,000 women in the U.S. and 1.2 million worldwide diagnosed each year. The chance of developing invasive breast cancer during a woman's life is approximately one in eight (roughly 13%), and it's estimated close to 41,000 women will die of breast cancer this year.

Money raised will benefit nonprofit organizations through the Marathon of Miracles Foundation (MOM).
