Eleven Years Dancing On The Edge

It seems impossible that I've spent another 365 days dancing with cancer and incredible that I'm alive to experience this eleven year anniversary. The living done in the time and space between here and there is quite humbling. These past twelve months have been spent savoring time, fulfilling dreams, treasuring family, and embracing hope.

Along with family and friends, I've celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, Thanksgiving, Christmas, another New Year, vacations, and college for my girls. There… Continue

Trail Mix

Ever hear of trail mix? It's one of my favorite snacks; especially the kind with lots of chocolate!! For those of you who have never had the snack it is a combination of dried fruit, nuts, and sometimes chocolate. It was made as a quick treat to be taken along on the trail. I pick through my trail mix and really enjoy some of it and then there are some pieces that just get left in the bag.

My scans were like a bag of trail mix.....there were pieces that I really, really liked and others that I'… Continue

Aboard The Magic Carpet

Where the magic carpet goes.......no one really knows. In my land of cancer it has taken me to places I never expected to see and allowed for milestones I never thought that I would reach. A fabulous two week break from chemo left me wishing that the days could stretch just a little bit longer. In those days without treatment the girls competed in the USEDC drill competition, Curtis Salgado and Dave Fleschner gave an incredible performance "at the surface of the sun," I got to meet Jackie and he… Continue

Be The Difference!!

What a stark contrast in my weeks. This time last Tuesday, I was walking a fine line with my vision, afraid that another downturn was close at hand, only to be elated by the contact mistake a few hours later. What a wonderful relief! Wednesday I was on a plane to Chicago. Thursday I was with all of you. Home again now.

The conference is over, Ronnie is in California, and it is another happy hours day for me. I was first in line for labs this morning and then to hook-up. I started yet another ne… Continue

No Outfit Complete

Chloe has been a part of our family since March 31st. I am filled with pride each morning as Katie gets her ready for the day. She wakes her with laughter in her voice and a smile on her face. She is more natural with this baby than I could have ever dreamed possible. I expected Ronnie and I to be spending a lot of time caring for her but even on the weekends she is a part of the clan....Katie's friends take turns holding her, they fuss over her, and she basks in the attention.

Many things have… Continue

Hello, got your message - I tried to call you back but the line is busy. We have tickets but we would love to sit with you and we will give our tickets to another survivor. I didn't know if you needed to give your tickets to Colon cancer people and didn't want you to think you had to give us tickets. Either way will work out.

Hi Suzanne,
First I pray that you are doing well. I just wanted to give you an update on what I have been doing.

After seeing the specialist in New Orleans, I saw an interventional radiologist at the University of Penn who also specializes in Carcinoid cancer. He has a less aggressive treatment plan. My tumor mets in my liver is less than 10%, my liver function test is good, my tumor markers are very low, this doctor feels I don't need the Sir Shperes or chemoembolization now. In addition to the Sandosatin injections that I get every 28 days, along with blood work, I will get MRI's every three months. Since the MRI that I had in June, I had one in January. I'm scheduled for the next one April 1st. So I an anxious to see what is going on since they have studies that show that the Sandosation has been known to shrink tumors and stop them from growing. I will see the doctor on April 8th to get the results.

I saw a gastro doctor at Penn and he agrees with the less aggressive approach.

My cancer is typical. In the event that the tumors start to grow, I will get the Sir Spheres treatment because I have read so many positive things about those magic beads.

I feel confortable with the plan and being treated by doctors close to home. All the doctors I'm seeing at Penn also specialize in Carcinoid cancer.

I feel great!!! I have not had sick day since the pain that I had when I went to the hospital in June of last year. I'm just taking one day at a time and trusting and keeping my faith. God is so good!!

Got any photos of me that you could add. I have no idea how to do it. Also, can you give me the name of the guy who could help me find someone in the area with colon cancer. I already miss you.
