Fitness and exercise are my sanity and one source of strength for me. A good power walk with music will do wonders for your mood. Every step counts. even if you can only do 10 steps. bedroom to backyard. around the block. such a privilage!!

Wonder if we can survey those that want to start exercising but don't know where to begin? I know that it was a mighty battle for me, and I had been active at the YMCA for years. After cancer, my body ached all over and my stamina was nill.
The other idea I have is little 30 second clips that people can do any where, like public announcement stretches! Maybe we can build them into the site?
What can we do?
Blessings,
Jean

My "new" running shoes are getting worn out! They're great, but I'm putting them through their paces, so to speak. The beach, the 4th street steps, the street, wherever and whenever, baby! Have shoes will travel. The best time to work out is when you really don't feel like it. It's those times that I drag myself out the door and go for it and 10 minutes later I FEEL GREAT! It doesn't matter whether you do a little or a lot, just do it!

For the last two years I have lived in Carbondale, IL. There is a great breast cancer support group there called "Women of Hope" and Donna Crow, she runs the meetings, is a seven year survivor. Anyway, she had Phil Anton come to one of our mtgs. He works at Southern Illinois University and has the "Strong Survivors" class. Anyone that has survived being told they have cancer can go through the class and its great. Phil and his assistants start off by putting each participant through a number of exercises to get a baseline on their fitness level, endurance and sense of balance. I did miserably on the exercises even though it isn't a pass/fail kind of thing. Anyway, the class is twelve weeks long and we did 45 min to an hour of exercise twice a week and a 30 min nutrition class once a week. Each exercise workout was designed specifically to the individual. It was pretty great at working all the different muscles and getting a little bit of aerobic exercise in too. At the end of the twelve weeks, Phil and his assistants put each of us through the same exercise test that we completed at the beginning of the class. The results were amazing. I remember Phil saying that I improved by over 20% on each exercise! I also felt so much better. I started radiation on the same day I started the Strong Survivor class and my energy level increased. That isn't suppose to happen with radiation. At home I could go up the stairs without being out of breath. I am now a firm believer that your physical fitness level is directly related to your sense of well-being and over all health. I'm overweight by more than a few pounds but this class made me a believer of physical fitness. The problem is, once you have been through the class, your finished. I stopped working out or doing any aerobic activity and I'm right back where I started. Any ideas for something that I could do to increase my strength through a daily, easy to maintain workout that doesn't include a bunch of equipment or belonging to a gym? I'm open to ideas to help me get back in some kind of shape.

Walking is so good for you, it clears your mind, makes you feel good and saves you gas!

I just bought a new pair of running shoes and I'm going to break them in today on the beach in Santa Monica. Staying fit helps you fight!
